BEST way to refinish hardwd floors with oil poly 1 room at a time?

I had hardwood floors refinished professionally with water based polyurethane (previously were oil based polyurethane) and after a year, they look horrible! Would like to go back to oil based as a do it yourself projetc. Can it be done one room at a time? HELP!!!
