Repurposed Wood Cutting Boards

I think you can repurpose just about anything. If you like the way something looks, but don’t want to use it as it is intended, think outside of the box to come up with a new use for it.
That is exactly what happened when I found this unused, untreated wood cutting board at a thrift store. I didn’t need a new cutting board, but the fresh wood and the size of the board were too perfect to pass up. Then, when I saw the $1 price tag, it was a no-brainer.
I knew it wouldn’t take long to come up with a plan for this board. I had removed some signs from the wall beneath the built-in in our dining room. I did not like them there anymore, so I reused them to make the Rusty Clipboards that I posted about here.
So, to fill the empty wall, I thought the cutting board would work well there (after I “spuced” it up a little bit).
I stained it a dark color and used a black paint marker to paint one of my favorite words for the kitchen/dining area – “gather”.
Before hanging it, I knew I needed to find some smaller boards to help complete the wall.
For the second board, I could not stain it because it had tons of cut marks on it. So, I painted it white and added some orange stripes. I distressed it a little with some tape.
Yes, tape.
After the paint dried, I put painter’s tape over it and ripped it off. The paint came off with the tape in random areas! PERFECTION! It made it look like the board has been around awhile! Just like I like them.
For the third board, I taped off some lines in the center. Then, I added the word “eat” on the bottom right-hand corner with a red paint pen. Again, I used tape to “distress” it a little.
The empty wall has been filled. The repurposed wood cutting boards are just what our dining area needed. After it was all said and done, I spent $4.
I have been thinking about adding some kind of a “back-splash” to this wall. Until I find the perfect thing to put on the wall, my $4 wood cutting board art will be just fine.
