I mix bleach with tea tree oil into a spray bottle and periodically soak the mold or mildew. The bleach should kill what you can see and the tea tree oil kills the residual. Let it dry out as much and as often as possible.
  • If bleach did not work, then you may have a mold problem that is not just a surface problem. Mold grows in drywall. Is this your home? Do you have access to the ceiling above the bathroom to check for mold or water leaks on the top side of bathroom ceiling? If not, then I suggest you need to do some further investigation to see if the drywall is moldy (cutting out a patch to check). Do you have a fan in the bathroom? this is an important part of keeping moisture out of a bathroom. Investigate and do not just clean. \ Mold is bad for your health and can cause breathing problems and illness. I do not want to sound overdramatic but if bleaching the ceiling did not help, and I say this from experience, then there could/are underlying issues.Good luck

Some can't tolerate bleach. I sometimes use vinegar on mold or odo-ban (available at Home Depot and its fantastic) which will kill the mold and odor, if any, as well

Try buying some liquid chlorine from the pool shop. Mix 1 part chlorine and 5 parts water in a bucket or spray bottle. Make sure you wear gloves and eye goggles. It is potent stuff.cover your skin too and open windows. leave room for awhile if smell is strong.. We use this on green concrete, moldy fibro, any moss or mould. It is the best we have found and very cheap too, good luck. Sheree
  • Scrub the walls thoroughly with a strong solution of trisodium phosphate and water. Then swab the affected areas with chlorine bleach and let it sit for an hour or two. Rinse with water . The presence of mold suggests that you have a ventilation problem. Therefore you need to install a ventilation fan to remove the humid air in the bathroom.Regularly cleaning the bathroom will prevent mold starting to grow. Once a month try and wipe the bathroom with an anti-fungal solution.Another good tip is to spray the bath and shower once a month with undiluted vinegar which prevents mold and deodorizes the bathroom. You don't need to rinse the vinegar away, instead let it dry on its own.

Bleach cuts the finish and will need to be repainted/sealed. Problem with most of the chemicals is toxic fumes. Discover the cause of the mildew and attack that first. Ventilation is a must. There may be another problem as well. If the cause isn't discovered, there will be a continual problem. Mildew may have gotten into the ceiling tile, if so, it'll need to be removed. You can't clean it. Masks are a good idea for dealing with both the mildew, and the chemicals needed to remove it.

Clean the area, paint with odorless Kilz after it has dried completely, like overnight. Paint desired color. Ask Paint Dept about a bathroom paint sealer, or even an outdoor sealer, since rainy weather does the same thing.

I used bleach to get mould off my bathroom wall and ceiling about 5 years ago and it hasn't come back. I always make sure I open the window after my shower to keep it aired and ventilated. Make sure you wear a mask if you do it and make sure there is plenty of ventilation while you are cleaning. Hope this helps.

Do not mix bleach and ammonia or a strong alkaline cleaner. Together they make mustard gas. Applying any of those solutions to a ceiling, head crooked backwards, looking up, dripping back down on face and shoulders not my cup of tea. This mold usually starts above the shower. Get a good exhaust fan. Try Habitat Restore.

try white vinegar mixed half and half w water , if you have an original swiffer floor duster you can use that with an absorbent cloth or wet swiffer cloth .... also at walmart you can get hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle , mist it and let it set , mist it again then use the swiffer thing to rub it off . good luck .... both of these are free from toxic fumes and if you use vinegar, that smell fades away . the hydrogen peroxide may bleach fabrics and WILL bleach hair , so be careful

I put water into a spray bottle and added bleach. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation. Wear your protective eye gear and spray the ceiling or wall where the mold is growing. Also make sure you are not wearing your Sunday best clothes. Also make sure you cover any rugs or fancy towels!

Bleach and a sponge mop. Mop makes it easy to reach. I always thought paint for a boat was the way to go for the ceiling in the bathroom.
