How can I remove smoke smell from a mattress?

We recently received a great mattress from a family member the only issues is it smell like smoke.  Does anyone know how we can remove the smell from it?  It's hard to take it outside to air out now with this cold weather we are having.  Thank you for your help!

I would think that sprinkling baking soda on the mattress and leave for several hrs., then vacuum…not sure though, never had that issue, but baking soda helps to absorb nasty odors.

hi...call a ServoPro and use there Ion Cleaner. It is a very simple process. This is how they get the smoke smell from burnt buildings. It should work like a charm. My friend in Charlotte, NC has one and I am using it to get the smells out of a sofa.

Cigarette smoke? If so this is almost impossible to get out. I would still put it outside to air out just to see if it will help. Just as Lori stated above you call a professional to clean it.

What a problem you have! I just bought a beautiful china cabinet for a great price (it is stunning) but the darn thing smelled so bad with cigarette smoke. It took me a month to get the smell under control. Being wood, I first washed it down with 409 just to clean it a bit. Then used spray lemon pledge on the wood. Used bleach on the glass, then alcohol. Finally, I sprayed the entire thing inside and out with Febreze SEVERAL times! Then sprinkled soda over it inside and out. I just about have it beat. So I guess I can say to you is put the mattress somewhere where you can spray it over and over until you get a good dry day to put it out in the sun. The sun will help even if it is cold. Put it on a tarp on a deck and leave it all day. Then turn it over and repeat the next day. Spray as you go. Good luck.

try 1 part water, 1 part vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it (i wouldnt get it to wet). I do this in my husbands truck to get the 'whatever that smell is' out.

Very hard - most likely inpossible. You could call a carpet cleaner place and see what they subjest. Sometimes they have the chemicals that take out the smoke smell. Or have professionals take it and put it in a o-zone chamber. This is what they do with fire orders.
