Turn Your Old Bookshelf Into Nesting Boxes EASILY!!

I love nesting boxes. Every time I have found them in an antique store or barn sale, they are way out of the price range I would want to spend on one. That, of course, didn't stop me from wanting some in our home. I knew we could DIY nesting boxes, but I wasn't sure how. Then, while out browsing yard sales, I came across this bookshelf.
It was homemade with thick boards and I immediately thought it was the perfect start to some nesting boxes!
The first thing we did was paint the entire thing with some left over gray paint I had from a previous project.
Then, we cut boards we had in the garage to make the "boxes" to the piece. This piece was big enough to get 5 boxes on each shelf.
In the end, we added a 1 x 3 to the front of each shelf which really made the bookshelf look like nesting boxes. We touched up the paint and they nesting boxes were ready for decor!!!
Look at this bookshelf now! Isn't is gorgeous! It can be used for so many things! Sadly, it was too big for the spot I wanted it in our home, but it is going to a home that will love it just as much as I did. Now that we have made one, I can search for another bookshelf that is a little smaller to fit in our space and do it over again.

Do you have an old bookshelf you aren't using anymore? What would you use this piece for?

I totally love this idea! It is so funny, because when I read "nesting boxes", I was thinking you were going to cut all the wood from the shelves and make boxes that fit inside one another! (couldn't figure why they would mean so much to you, but to each her own) Pigeons or other nesting birds never even entered my mind! Your project turned out way better than I imagined. Sometimes you just gotta laugh at where your mind will go.
