Sponge Painting Terracotta Pots for Summer!

I decided to jazz up my terracotta pots for my summer patio! This is an easy and fun project that requires only paint, a pot and a sponge brush. I think that kids would have fun with this project as well!
I purchased the terracotta pots and saucers at a local craft store for a few dollars each. You can also find these in the thrift store.
I first took a brush and painted each pot and saucer in DecoArt Curb Appeal Paint. This paint is made for outdoor use and will hold up to the weather. I used a dark blue on the larger pot and orange on the smaller.

I then poured both yellow and orange paint into my palette. You can just as easily use a small dish or any plastic container that you can throw away after you are done.
Taking my sponge brush, I dabbed it into both the orange and yellow paints and then onto a piece of cardboard to take off the excess.
I played around with it and went with a starfish shape. After deciding on your design, go ahead and dab it onto your painted pots.
This was so simple and adds so much color into my garden!
I also added a smudge or orange along the rim to add interest.
For the smaller pot, I took a sponge brush and using the dark blue, dabbed on a leaf shape haphazardly.

I started doing something similar with some plastic pots I got a the dollar store. I used tape on the first one to try to come up with a southwesternish design. It sort of worked but I was using spray paint and I had a bad can. (sprayed on dusty looking blobs and skinny looking mini-sticklike things) I think I should have done it your way! I still have 4 or 5 to do so your idea came in time.
