Easily Give New Terra Cotta Pots an Aged Look

2 Materials
I have always love the look of old terra cotta pots that have been left out in the elements. The aged patina lends a romantic, rustic, cottage feel to an otherwise plain clay pot.
For this project you will need new terra cotta pots, chalk paint in white, a bowl of water, paper towels or a rag, and a paint brush
Begin by randomly brushing chalk paint onto the pots, heavier in some areas and lighter in others.
The idea is not to cover the entire pot, but rather splotches here and there.
Next dip a paper towel or rag into the water and with light pressure, blend the paint, again leaving a heavier coat of pain near the edges (top and bottom)
Continue wetting the paper towel and blending until you have just the right blend of terra cotta showing through a light hazy shade of whitewash and thicker patches, especially around the rim and randomly around the entire pot.
If left to weather on their own, no two pots would be the same, hence be sure to vary the pattern on each pot.
Add your favorite plants either indoors or out! I have a few pots that I did last year and after placing them outside for the season they really started to develop an even more aged patina with a light hint of moss around the bottom!
