Discolored Fridge

The plastic portion of my fridge that surrounds my ice/water dispenser is starting to get discolored and yellow over time. Does anybody know how to prevent/fix this?

I agree with Wanda, just replace it. You could also call the manufacturer and ask how this could be prevented in the future.

I would think if it is a fairly new fridge that it is defective in some way. Call the manufacturer and tell them about your problem. If it is still under warranty they should replace it free. I had door shelves that cracked and 2 years later they sent me new ones.Worth a try.

I'm sure the discoloration is due to having hard water. I don't know if a water filter system would help you or not but if it is due to your water, the problem will most likely continue.

Some 'white' plastics discolor/yellow over time. I have a lot of small appliances that have one part discolored and the rest of the same appliance is not, it is the type of plastic the manufacturer used on that section. You can order a new part and if you are the handy type, replace it yourself or pay for an appliance repair man to do so, or it would be cheaper to try the plastic paint. But definitely complain to the manufacturer, they need to avoid these white plastics on their large appliances.

I would just replace it. Sometimes just exposure to light plastic will change it's color. If it is under warranty have them do it. By the way love the collection of tea pots and vases above the cabinets.

I have hard water and it does not discolor plastic, it will however etch the plastic. This is definitely a manufacturers defect because the entire water dispenser is discolored. Call your manufacturer.

My son is a smoker of cigarettes and I have noticed some white plastic in my home has turned yellow and no matter what I try on it....it still stays yellow.....such as deep freezer gaskets, fridge gaskets and washer and dryer plastic....but then the W&D are 16 years old.
