First off this is my Dear friends home who took  care of me after having a car accident, surgery and broken back.  We have known each other for years and when something like this happens in your life to know that you have someone like her to count on, well you can count your blessings!  So My friend has gone through a divorce and was ready for a new look ..,beachy casual shabby comfortable.  So she bought some furniture and we set about doing the accessories. She had some wonderful shells that I could use. I saw some high end shell décor at a show and thought .. I CAN DO THAT!  I truly got old candle sticks at yard sales, spray painted then and hot glued shells on them. Some that are brass I left that way so I could have an eclectic grouping. So what I saw at Market for $200 each I did all for less than $10! Plus , it meant so much more to her as many of these had fond memories for her. You can check her out online at www.doctordebbie10.com
She is an amazing person who has helped so many!
Next we needed curtains. We did not want the same old things so I made some cornice boards that held some more of the shells that she had collected through the years. I started off with a large board and had Home Depot cut them to size. I then white washed them as you will see in the picture below.
Next I glued the shells onto the board in a pleasing order. To add texture, I took rope and used it to make patterns in the background to enhance the details.
After adding the rope details
Next I used Drop cloth as side panels and a gauzy fabric as the sheer . The cornice was hung above the window to create height and interest.
On curtains that I did hang up in another room I made finials for the rods that were actually closet rods. This saves so much money! I drill holes to secure the finials to the rod and wrapped left over wood pieces with rope and used more shells to adorn.  This all turned out really cute and what she loves is that NO one else has anything like what she has. I figure that is only right because she is a one of a kind herself.  The moral to this story is be grateful for your friends in life, many times they are more to you than family.  And to always return the favors that others have done for you and to pay it forward...always.

Lovely idea but I have a question about the cornice. How did you attach it to the wall? Thanks for sharing such a wonderful idea with us!
