Exterior Shutters are more than "window dressing". They are part of a rich Architectural past. I uncover their significance, style & curb appeal, as I work to restore (some of) the louvered wood shutters that were hung on our Victorian Farmhouse.

In a nutshell, the steps were as followed:
  • Remove and Label Window Shutters
  • Remove Paint from Wood Shutters, including:
  • Stripping the Wood Shutters (Professional Paint Stripping)
  • & later, Storing Window Shutters
  • Restore Window Shutter Hardware
  • Paint Exterior Wood Shutters, including:
  • Setting Up a Paint Station
  • & Priming and Painting Louvered Shutters with a Sprayer
  • Prep for Hanging the Window Shutters, including
  • Pairing Hinges, Pulls & Hold Backs
  • & Locating Shutters
As a bonus - I check in with Carpenter Lenny Addario working in Coastal Connecticut. He recently restored 115 year old Board and Batten Shutters - with a cool heart cut-out.
  • Hang Exterior Wood Shutters
  • Install Wood Shutter Hardware
  • Make Final Adjustments in Fit & Function

Come visit to see the full detail. It was a super fun project (though admittedly, ultra time consuming. Notes on cost and time are by Window.) Hope you enjoy it as well. Cheers. ~jb
