I have very noisy neighbors upstairs and can't figure out how to fix the problem short of tearing out my ceiling or their floor (which they won't do).

Staple insulation to your ceiling. Research to see if you can buy sound-dampening product, the thinner the better. Add a grid system that doesn't touch the ceiling or new insulation. Add Sheetrock onto the grid system. The insulation, the slight air gap and the grid system should add some peace to your home. It's too bad the neighbors won't make an effort too. More rugs, less running and dropping items, lighter footsteps would help a lot.

Are they owners or renters? If renters, have you talked to the owners? They do make sound proof batting to dampen sound. But you would have to open the ceiling..... you might see if they can drill holes and blow it in. I would make sure to do it, so it bugs the heck out of them.... not nice when neighbors don't cooperate.

Thanks for sharing. I have already had insulation blown in and that did nothing; it may even have made it worse. The contractor who did this said it would eliminate 80% of the noise and silly me, I believed him...but that is another story. The people there are owners and they do not speak English well, so talking to them is terrible. They do not go out of their way to make noise, but just the normal walking around and talking is bothersome.

But was it sound deadening insulation? Its a blue gray product. I would call that contractor back and find out what he used and tell him its not working. https://www.acousticalsurfaces.com/insulation/?gclid=CjwKEAjw6e_IBRDvorfv2Ku79jMSJAAuiv9Yeoe_fE01Dn_sgqi2aMIwHozEr_67I5gOX71wSylseBoCoDXw_wcB

I do understand, I hate people walking over my head, dropping stuff etc. I always look for concrete construction. Sorry. Are there any top floor units for sale?

Sharon, I did complain, bitterly, and they basically called me a liar when I told them what their salesman said. They refunded about 1/3 of my money but I in order to get that I had to sign papers saying I wouldn't tell anyone the name of the company. Anyway...live and learn not to trust salesmen who tell you what you want to hear I guess. Thanks for taking the time to share advise. I believe I am going to have to learn to live with it.
