You can cut the fabric to fit, and use spray adhesive to attach. Do on a drop cloth as the overspray is icky. You can apply a bit of trim on edges to make more finished or simply fold under if you can a bit bigger. If its a super sunny window, fabric may fade overtime so pick lighter colors.

Fabric might work. I see it as sort of like a combination wicker blind / Roman shade. Not sure how to pull it off - but it's a thought :)
