What to do with a sloped townhouse backyard?

I have a tiny fenced townhouse backyard. It is a little sloped inside, more sloped outside. My fence door open toward inside. That is not the problem. The problem is I can not make a gravel path to the door since it is not level. And hard to do the landscape. But if I level the inside, I am afraid of the erosion under the door since there is height difference between inside and outside. Any ideas?

I would consider cutting in steps for your path, which should not go straight down but angle/curve. if you want to have some level spots, say for a table and chairs, etc, you could put in some stackable blocks like these:

then fill behind them to create a small terrace within your fenced area.
I have a small corner in my backyard. I pulled all the weeds and am going to make a bird sanctuary; it is uneven as well, but I am going to put dead tree branches to hang bird feeders and such on it. It might work for your area as well.
