A simple solution would be to get him a desk or create one.

Talk to your child about why they like it as a desk. Find a suitable alternative desk for your child. Perhaps from a thrift store and redecorate it together so the child feels connected to it. Consider whether your child is using your dresser as a desk in your space to be around you more?

Have the child do homework at the kitchen table . That's where mine did homework as I prepared dinner so I could be available for assistance . Also , no distractions. Speak to your child and explain that this is a more appropriate environment for them to work on homework and projects . You need and deserve your own space .

Assuming the dresser is a bedroom dresser......remove child's items from the top, place a runner and dresser type toiletry items on top of runner. Tell child not to use as desk.

Get child it's own desk, in it's own space. Explain to child your dresser is off limits.

Add a large swing mirror, a decorative dressing table cloth, brush set, a tray for toiletries etc. There will be no room for homework.
