Can I paint over 90's style wall paneling?
I have 90's style wall paneling in my bathroom. Can this be painted over or do I have to pull it down and paint over it?
Rough up the wall with sand paper, then wash real well with soapy water... make sure you rinse it really. Then add a good quality primer ( one that grips well)... good luck
well you would need to sand it ...to get the shiny vinyl texture off of it.....
Would chalk paint eliminate the need for sanding?
Wash with something like a degreaser (even Dawn dishwashing soap will work). Rinse well, let dry. Prime with a bonding primer two coats if necessary for full coverage if the paneling is dark or has a pattern (like wallpaper look). Then paint with a good latex paint. Glidden has a good primer called "Gripper". There are other brands out there too (eg. Valspar) that have great bonding primers.
