Modern and Bright Living Room

Medium

Our living room is always changing. I just haven't completely found what works for the space and what works for our family. But, that doesn't mean that I can't celebrate it as it is right now and enjoy it. So, here's a mini tour of our living room as it is right now!

Just for kicks... here's our living room back in 2013 (after we'd painted and arranged the furniture that we had).

Ready to see how far it's come?

I've loved the gallery wall for quite some time but I'm just tired of it. Changing up art and decor can be expensive though, so it's staying for now.

I actually still love the layout of the gallery wall. Gallery walls can be challenging to get the layout and sizing so I might end up just changing up a few pieces within the frames short-term. If you need help with gallery wall sizing, check out my post that I did on that on my blog.

That corner cabinet (do you spy it?) has been a problem for years! I have no idea what to do with it. It used to have a scroll on the top and a door that closed over the glass but I took both of those out to help modernize it. I'm thinking that if I extend the cabinet to the ceiling and then build in shelves that will help some more.

The coffee table is vintage. My grandparents were getting rid of the coffee table and matching end tables and I jumped at the chance to have them.

This view feels bright and open. I think we need a small table to the right of the blue couch. Maybe a round one? And, we definitely need baseboards! Ha. We had hardwoods installed last April and we still don't have baseboards in the whole house. They aren't hard but seem to fall down on the to-do list!

Although, we did finish the master bedroom (check out the reveal) recently which included doing the baseboards so that's one room crossed off the list!

I might have gone a bit overboard with pillows, but I love the texture of all the pillows with the shag rug and the greenery. It all makes me happy.

I always get asked about having this cream shag rug. The short answer is that we love it. The longer answer is that, yes it does shed and if you had a few kids and pets... you would NOT love it. We've had it over a year and the shedding has almost finished. The first few months were pretty brutal. But, really... I love it. Also, we keep it clean by having a "no-shoe" policy on the rug for everyday use. If we have people over then we don't worry about it.

I hope you enjoyed the mini tour of our living room and how it looks right now.

You can shop the space in the blog link below if there's something that caught your eye.

Amazing update. I love it. I really love the blue sofa it's a surprise. Where did you get it I wand one,I'm serious. And yes I spied the corner and thought that it's an awesome idea for people that have a niche and don't know what to do within it, what an easy fix.

I’d pull the blue couch & side chair in closer. They look a little too far from the other pieces and likes it’s not a cohesive area. A soft table behind the blue couch would look nice. I’d also get a round coffee table. They look so much better & soften the space up. I bought one about 2 yrs ago and it made a beautiful difference. It softened the masculine pieces (my husband’s leather recliner 🤦🏼‍♀️😬😩). I love the blue couch. I also have a blue couch from Pier1. Isn’t a pop of color awesome in the LV? Blue is such a great color too; every color looks great with it. I also have a massive statement/gallery/group wall. I’m obsessed with them! I meant no disrespect to your post and I apologize if I offended you.
