we have had luck with flowers that like full sun. our west facing flower boxes are in the sun most of the day. What about yours? Look at the info tags at garden center on plants you like and match up with degree of sun you get.
Facing west, you should get a lot of afternoon and evening sun. So you need more heat tolerant plants and flowers.
