Getting rid of Couch or twitch weed here in New Zealand -toxicsprays
We have a weed problem well I mean I do. I have tried hot water boiling water actually and a strong salt solution to try and get rid of them. It is very invasive and it grows by the smallest piece of a root that looks like a tuber please if any body has any answers I want to get rid of it and not have to use toxic sprays. It is strangling my roses

If you're willing to give it some time, you can smother it out by blocking the sunlight. This involves keeping the weed covered with black plastic for about 9 months. It's a long time but it will help kill this sneaky sneaky pest.

How about vinegar? Have you tried that? I would go with the agricultural strength, much higher acidity content. I would spray on the plant and dig up the soil around the base of the plant and drown it. Hopefully it is not close to the roses, as you want to keep those.
