They don't like reflections. You can make a hanging of old CDs and the reflection from them will keep them away.
spray WD40 or something similar around area. they don't like the smell but it disappears enough for humans to tolerate.
We are installing a water feature/fountain in our patio area. Some are concerned it will attract birds, and it may. I hope we don't have too many complaints about birds. I am thinking of putting in a couple of small fish. We will be using a large pot with a solar floating fountain. I hope to post it once it's done.
Consider giving them a feeding station in an area area from the deck. I spread a small amount of seed with a container of water and enjoy watching. I have a pair of mallards which visit each year. Using visual deterrents as previously suggested near the deck will also help.
