What can I do about these invasive flowers?

These flowers bloom in early fall and are very invasive I like them to a certain extent but they take over everything and no matter how much pulling I do they pop up everywhere smothering out my spring and summer blooming flowers what should I do about them.
I call them floss flowers as this is the name give to me by a friend. The roots are impossible! You pull and pull but can't rid yourself of all the roots. I'm still battling the buggers after 15 years of repeated pulling and spraying roundup. I truly hope some wise soul out there has a good answer for both of us! I don't dare do too much as they are under my gardenia and peony bushes.

Douse them with vinegar then wait a season, and amend soil with good compost and replant.
They look a bit like what we call 'creeping Charlie' here in Iowa, but they bloom in the spring here. We can knock them down by sprinkling Borax directly onto the plants and then allowing the dew or a light sprinkle of water to activate the Borax. The Borax doesn't kill grass or other flowers as I have the creeping Charlie in amongst true flowers of various kinds. This creeping Charlie is incredibly invasive! I use the Borax to attempt to keep it at bay near and in my flowers, but need a weed killer to slow it down in the yard. Good luck!!

HERE IN NEW JERSEY THEY ARE ALSO KNOWN AS CREEPING CHARLIE
I PULL MINE OR RAKE THEM OUT. YES THEY COME BACK AGAIN SO I KEEP MY EYE ON THEM. THEY ARE SO INVASIVE THAT THEY KILL ALL THE GRASS AROUND THEM. I DO NOT LIKE THE SMELL OF THEIR LEAVES EITHER. BUT THE PURPLE FLOWERS ARE NICE.
I think you just have to keep pulling them
