How to cut with a jigsaw?

have you tried clamping the wood to a solid surface i.e.: work bench or table?

Yes but then I can only go so far before I have to unclamp it so I can continue cutting. Thanks

Give the saw a little more downward pressure. That may help .

Make sure your blade is mounted the right direction....If it is upside down, it can make the wood jump around

With a jig saw, you need to clamp your work to a work surface and don't cut too far out from that work surface or your wood may vibrate more. I usually end up moving the clamp multiple times. Also clamp in such a way that you don't bind the wood against the blade as you cut.

Another tip I recommend, is using both hands. If you're right-handed, use your right hand to apply some downward / forward pressure (but don't force the blade). Then use your left hand to help guide the jig saw. If you use just one hand, you may tend to put sideways pressure on the blade and that will give you uneven cuts.

Also check to make sure you don't have a bent or crooked blade. That can cause vibration also. Hope this helps!
