I've had two family members with the same problem. It's a big job, but it's best to remove it. http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Bamboo

This is a 2 person job. Person 1 will cut the bamboo stalk with garden loppers. Person 2 then has 10 seconds to brush on straight Roundup with a 2-3" paintbrush to seal the wound. Any longer than that and the plant will have already sealed itself. New shoots will attempt to come up; do the same to them. It will take a couple of months, but it will die off. You can then dig up the dead underground root network. This works! I got rid of 20 foot high bamboo in my TX yard and 7 years later it has not cone back.

I Have been trying to kill Bamboo or over 3 years. I am still getting some growth b very little. Every time any piece touches the ground it will shoot back up! I have started cutting and burning the roots and stubs after removing and spraying with weed killer. I did not get any better results from 'Round Up' than I did any other ground killing products. Preen helps about as well as any. I did learn that shooting through the middle of the stubs helps kill it off.

Tang an ax and cutting roots also helped a great deal.

HD has a product that is HDX that I also used in a sprayer.

It could be something called Japanese Knotweed aka False BamboO if you are having that much trouble getting rid of it. Take a look at pictures of it to see if that's what you are dealing with. It is very tough to eliminate.
