My wife buys a version of Oxy-Clean form the dollar store and she loves it. Says it gets out stains very well. Give it a try see how it works for you and if it doesn't it was only a dollar.

Add a water softener like Calgon to each load; or use H2O2 (sorry, hydrogen peroxide ) like you would use bleach, but NEVER use bleach as it sets the stains. OR, if you are planning to stay in the house a long time, as my parents do, add a water softener and an iron block machine to your tank collection. Our basement holds, in a row, water heater, tempering tank, water softener, and iron blocker. But we have delicious water!
