Where do my beautiful finches go????

Earlier this spring I had two finch feeders and had 4 or more at each feeder. They are so tiny and beautiful that I bought 2 more feeders with the best thistle. For some reason, they are rarely at the feeders now. Do you think someone else had a better lunch for them. Do you know why they leave?
Thank you

Two things I can think of to help is to make sure your bird feeders are clean and that the seeds are fresh. Once they get old and dry out they lose their nutrition and your finches will look elsewhere for sustenance.

Birds do migrate. I live in Phoenix area and I have goldfinches around December/January but then they move on.

I am in Michigan and they arrive early spring. Maybe they came from your house! Thanks

We have many different birds around here and there are times I may not see a bird for days. I have two feeders that have the same feed in them, two suet blocks, and two of those net bags with thistle seed. Believe it or not they go to one feeder and not the other. The newer one has a different edge around it and they like the older cheaper one better. I filled both three days ago, The old one is empty and the newer one looks untouched.

  • All you bird lovers are welcome at my house! I have 5 hummingbird feeders, (3 year round), and 6 seed feeders and I can go through as much as 10 pounds a day or more if I would restock mid afternoon. Some days they have eaten everything by noon! Seed isn't cheap either and mine love black oil sunflower seeds. I do get migration birds both spring and fall . . .
