Can you give me ideas for my popcorn ceiling to give it a unique look?

I have tried to scrape the popcorn off my ceiling in my bathroom, however, difficult and messy. I'm looking for ideas to put on the ceiling to give it a unique look. I've considered wooden ceiling or the square metallic looking designs from home depot/lowes. Any other ideas??

If you're on a budget, a friend of mine took brown butcher paper, cut it into various sized triangles, squares, strips, etc, soaked then in some tea to give it a richer color, then decoupaged them in a random order on a cracked plaster wall. It was beautiful. You could use tissue paper, white butcher paper, take your pick to complete your look.
That sounds interesting for sure! And yes I'm on a budget. Do you have pics?
