Can I Decoupage on wood?

Hi everyone! I have never decoupaged before. I am putting my pretty paper onto wood here and there but leaving some of the wood exposed. My question is do I only use the decoupage paste where I am putting the paper or can I just decoupage all of the wood then put paper where I want it then another layer on top? Thanks in advance for the help! :) :) :)

Good question! I would think that the glue might leave some residue on the wood, so I would personally first try putting glue on the back of the paper, and then the top layer. Curious what others think, though!

you can do it both ways but putting on the piece you want would be the easiest way to go

If you are using a Modge Podge type of product I would do the whole thing with a light coat and then finish it with a coat of acrylic sealer. Sand with a very fine steel wool between finishes.

You can buy different sheens of decoupage. Choose the sheen you want for the whole table top. I coat the area of the table with the decoupage medium first, then put the paper on. Then decoupage the whole table top. That way you have the same sheen on your whole table.

Thank-you! I never realized just how many varieties there are. I just want it to stay on and not glossy for this piece. It's for my spice drying rack. Wanted something pretty for fall & winter, I added a box to the bottom and going to put pretty faux flowers on it...

Thanks, just a simple little keep busy project that I'm moving slow on. Couple weeks ago I hurniated a disk that has me all out of wack to include my neck. Getting better each day while awaiting an MRI. When your crooked its hard to be creative. I will post a picture when done.
