If you want the branches of a potted plant to take on an interesting shape you can place it at eye level and trim away some of the branches, turning the pot in all directions. Bonsai gardeners also use floral wire to hold a branch in shape. Don't trim too much each time because your plant still needs leaves. You might want to do this about twice a year. Really creating a bonsai is very challenging because it also involves trimming the roots. There may be a bonsai club in your area if you become interested.
