How to dry out my basement?

Felice Birdsall
by Felice Birdsall
My basement is 2 feet deeper than any other home on the block. Moisture seems to peculate into the space. My dehumidifier runs from April to Oct., very costly. Have tried painting with moisture proof paint, but even that seems to raise off the floor. Any better ideas? So far no water has shown up, just moisture. Live on the south shore of LI, which is surrounded by water. Felice, fee99bird@yahoo.com

You my have to install a sump pump. That's what we did, then painted with waterproof paint. We also run a dehumidifier. It has made a huge difference.
