You might look into using HardiePlank. It has the general look of wood, but lasts much better. Here is some product info if you want to check it out: http://www.jameshardie.com/homeowner/product...
Hardiplank siding is perhaps one of the biggest sellers in the country...and it has many benefits. It is a cement based product so it is bug and rot resistant. It does not have the grain variations that real wood has but it comes in versions that have a wood "texture" some a somewhat "painted" wood like appearance.
Best will be based on what appeals to you and what type of maintenance you want to do.
Another Hardi option is to use HardiPanel, instead of HardiPlank. The plank is a shiplap type of siding where the lines run parallel to the ground. The Panel is a 4x8 sheet of the same fiber-cement content, but the embedded pattern is an 8" wide "Board" with a 1" recessed gap between each "board."

home. Great stuff, but not easy to install without the right tools.
I just started the siding install at my cabin. My memorial day weekend was spent working on my own place for a change. We chose hardi plank for the "traditional" look but also for its fire resistance. Our cabin is a 6 hour drive from our main home and in the desert SW sagebrush can burn FAST. We have a metal roof and will install metal "skirting". Being in a remote location means progress is slow and patchy depending on our visits, but each trip brings us a bit closer to completion.

I was cutting this with my 7 1/2" worm drive saw set up with a diamond blade designed for hardiplank...this was power from my simple solar system...which was keeping up just fine. Its pleasant to not have to run the generator for these occasional cuts.
