Should I Paint my kitchen or not?

I have a very small galley style kitchen, and it's all oak!
I feel like painting the cabinets, but don't want that to date it. What color would be good to update and stay current?

Pale gray on the top cabinets and charcoal gray on the bottom ones.

White is always a safe color. I don't believe it ever goes out of style. Especially if you feel the kitchen is to dark. You could also install the rope lights that people are using to light up their counters. There are also the battery operated led lights for under the cabinets.

Painted cabinets have been around for ages. White is classic, but white cabinets on the bottom are hard to keep clean. You might want to use a darker color on the bottom—like gray and a lighter gray or white on top—depending on what color your countertops are. Which ever color you choose, make sure it doesn’t clash with your counters. Also, what color are your appliances? White appliances look better and your kitchen looks larger with white cabinets. Be sure to remove all the hardware from your doors and drawers before painting and set up a place to lay your doors and drawers while they are drying. If the inside of your cabinets are wood, paint them the same as the exterior of the cabinets. This makes painting easier and updates the inside also. These are just a few things to think about. Make sure you do proper prep and priming to make your paint durable.

If you are keeping the counter tops, go to a paint store get the chip that best matches your counters and from there go to very light version for the cabinets in an oil base paint and a tweener color for the walls. You can also go to the lightest version for the ceiling. Hardware on the internet is the best and cheapest way to go. In the improvement catalogs they have crown molding kits for less than 100.00 and I know it is not real wooden molding but it looks great and so easy to install following the simple directions. This always brings bling to any room
