These DIY retaining walls look simple enough to do, however, it is a back breaking job to do it. Imagine that you might need 200 of these blocks and each block weighs 20 lbs. That is 4,000 lbs of lifting. It's only 4,000 lbs (two tons) if you have it all delivered to your door step and if you only have to lift it one time. Chances are you will lift it at least twice. Once from the driveway to the general location and then once again to the exact location.

All this may be doable, you're young, you have a good back and you are committed. Now you must map out your plan and you must begin with a completely level run. Any slant in your run will show up in the wall and it would be like building a crooked house. This step is critical and requires exactitude. It is the most critical part of your plan.

Wow. Are you talking about a hill that slopes toward your house/yard? You can do it. Take some measurements of width of what you think size will be and approximate height of dirt you wish to retain. Go to your garden store and have someone help you choose retaining wall bricks or other and how many you will need. Pictures help. Good luck.
