There are web site that you can do kitchen layouts. You put in the measurements of your room and choose different size, styles of cabinets. You can also take your measurements to Lowes Kitchen Center & they will do layouts for you.

Personally, I'd post a birds eye view picture of your suggested design and let people make suggestions. If you don't have a designer or a digital way to create the design, use old fashioned graph paper.

You should ask yourself three questions: 1. How do you use the space? 2. What bothers you about the space? and 3. Budget? By answering these 3 questions, you will be able to decide whether to do a new layout or leave it alone.

f you're doing a complete reno, you have more options. If not, think about how you use your space and what you can do to improve it. Sometimes, just removing excess items will leave you with enough storage space. If you have a wide empty wall, a glass front tall cabinet may be all you need to provide storage and visual interest. If you don't like your cabinets, but they're in good condition, consider painting them rather than replacing them. Hobby Lobby has a good paint for cabinets.

Once you have your dream kitchen in mind I think the first thing to think about is would it require moving electric lines, water and waste pipes. That is when you want a professional unless you know someone that is a good plumber and electrician. If you have to move pipes and/or electricity check to be sure if you have to have a permit.
