How do I keep "Creeping Charlie" out of my yard?

Hi Sandi! You live in one of my favorite places! You will never going to be able to keep it out permanently, all you can do is control it. I boil a couple kettles of water and pour on any offending weed. Later when brown and dead, I go back and dig out, root and all. Another option would be to add a little mound of epsom salt on top of the weed before pouring the boiling water. Another method is to spray it with vinegar, I use cleaning vinegar. But it will take longer for anything to grow back in that same spot. Granted my yard is much smaller than what you all have in TN, but at least these are options. Hope this helps! Honey, I contacted a horticulture Prof at Clemson last summer and it's almost impossible. The plant runs underground and reroots. You pay a pro or you pay Walmart and the water company. Either way it's an everyday process. I feel for you.

Bring your lawnmower down the lowest level you can mow and cut them and then get a metal rake and scrap up the rest. If is going rain cover the spot with plastic so that whatever roots are left do not get water! Good Luck

You have my sympathies. We've finally gotten ours somewhat under control, but you have to stay on top of it as it is incredibly invasive. I've tried most of the lawn weed applications available, even the ones that are supposed to target creeping charlie. No luck with that! We really had two options left; hand pull or go with a residential lawn service. Since we had to replace a big chunk of our lawn anyway, we opted to hand pull. Also, that stuff stinks when you pull it . . . yuk! Sorry I couldn't give you a better option.

Being a professional gardener, I will say this one is a tough one. To get out creeping charlie, you do need to dig down and really separate the roots out from the soil. This is a very pervasive plant! With one of my clients, i took a lot of time last year digging down deep enough to get all the roots (at least 6" down)

and it still is back! But not near as much, and it is easier now to maintain. But I have to work at it weekly to keep it in check! Good luck! P. S. When you take out the creeping charlie, throw it away in a plastic bag or something. Don't just

put it in a weed pile or in the nearby woods.
