Is there any way to attach a screening that will allow light?
Oh dear, I feel for you! Recently just after my fig trees set fruit we had horrible high winds and it ripped the leaves off and the baby fruit flew through the air like little green bombs, I was heartbroken, sometimes Mother Nature isn't so happy. If possible you could cover with landscape netting to minimize damage during periods of high winds. Some people use lawn and leaf bags and poke holes in them and cover the plants. You could build frames and use a lightweight screen fabric attached to the frames and placed over your planters and held in with spikes that went deep enough not to be uprooted and fly about.
Thank you for your ideas!
