What are thoughts on vinyl plank flooring on top of existing floor?

This was done on a kitchen counter that I burned with some leftover NAFCO wood looking planks from my floor, and it surprised me how nice it was! Durable as well if you apply it with the right glue. Easy to clean and warerproof. That one small counter we did looked like a butcher block too. Now, It obviously would not hold up to knives and such so I did have an actual wood cutting board to use. Otherwise, it worked and looked nice!

If your current floor is smooth and in good condition....I would definitely lay new vinyl on top. It all depends on what kind of floor you currently have.

Depending on your current flooring, make sure there are no chips, peeling, or cracks, before laying new vinyl . Of course the floor has to be cleaned first to ensure absolute adhesion. Best of luck.

Go for it! I plan on doing it and have been researching it for a longwhile. You can even buy types that are floating without adhesive. There are click types and the drop kind with no grooves. I would suggest picking up some samples and trying it out. I have picked up a few that scratched badly. One was scratched before I even left the store, lol. I am waiting till it is in the budget, and I plan on buying a higher-end type like Kardean.

We put solid vinyl plank, the kind that hooks together and floats on a sad old wood floor in a bathroom. Just need a firm, dry, level surface. This family treats it harshly and it has held up great . Takes a little practice to connect the entire length of each plank, but once it is hooked smoothly, it stays in place. Eight months in use so far.
