You could turn it into a great planter. I can also envision it holding a pitcher and bowl set. Good luck and let us all know what you did.

    - You could turn it into a bar, remote, phone etc. storage or small electronics charging system by wiring in docks with small area or shelf to sit on. (google globe bars) by cutting globe in 1/2 and putting hinges, you could also drill hole in bottom feed in bulb light or strand lights and then cut out around continents (not fully --kinda like a stencil) or pierce around them for light to shine through.. gl and post here when you finish so we can see what you did and don't miss..

New globe bars that look old run over $300 for a small one. Modge Podge family pictures on it so that no matter how it sits you always are looking at someone you love. Ohh old love letters on the outside with a light inside.

Globes are big right now. Are you thinking of selling it or using it in your own home. If it is to sell...I may leave as is...or paint that quite substantive base in a more shabby chic way. Some examples: http://www.landerandmay.com/charles-dien.html , https://www.etsy.com/listing/157915723/vintage-plant-stand-wrought-iron-garden?ref=market If for sale...I would be awesome to be displayed as a bar with pressed/cut glass clear glass liquor bottles and a vintage martini set! Hope this helps!

@My Gnome Little World Thank you for your post. I have and old globe my children used, looks to childish so I am going to put a stain on the globe to give an antique look and paint the base which is metal. Will put it in my library.

You could also paint w/ chalkboard paint after converting to bar then write in chalk liquors inside or mixed drink recipes :)

It would make a nice umbrella stand, perhaps put something at the bottom to collect the water.

@Betty Khaldoune Wow, I never thought about that one Betty - I love that next to my new bench chair I made for the front door.

I'm a globe freak so I would leave it like it is! HA! It appears to be large enough to enjoy and yet small enough not to be intrusive!

Cut in half & put hinges & a latch & use it for a scene, storage, with a cut out shelf for glasses or wine if big enough.

That's a real nice one. If you have children in house, I'd keep it. Something in the news, talk with them about it.

Please, please keep it like it is! It is beautiful, and I'm sure it has the "old" names for countries, like Ugoslovia does not even exits any more. If you want to sell it, let me know, my husband would love It!. Perfect just as it is. Anna
