How to eliminate leaf-cutter ants eating my veggies, flowers & plants?

I live in Cost a Rica, in a lush-green 6-acre property with many tropical flowers, plants and veggies. We have done so many things to combat against/eliminate leaf-cutter ants, but they still come now and then, in an incredibly huge groups and they fine ways to avoid our traps, whether it is anti-killer grains, poison spray, poison powder, etc. How can I get rid of them, in order to protect our flowers and plants and especially my 95-year old mother's veggie gardens?
