I moved in a mobil home that was a bachelor pad for several years. It also has well water. Most the time the water softener works fine but every once in awhile it goes crazy. The problem is rust stains in tub and toilet. I have tried several cleaning products and I was wondering if anybody had a sure fire cleaning product to handle. I have tried CRS. I have drained the toilet bowl and scrubbed it by hand. Ring disappeared for awhile but it comes back quickly. I told better half I want a new toilet , can't put in a new tub lol

I have the same problem, rust stains in the toilet bowls that I can't get rid of. The toilets are not incredibly old.
  • CLR is a great rust removal chemical. Pour on area, let rest and scrub the rust stains away. The reason why the ring appears on the commode is that over time all the scrubbing has scratched the surface of the bowl. Although tiny scratches these will collect solids and allow the hard water a better place to adhere to. Thus the reason for the quick time it takes to get dirty again and the difficulty to remove as the stains are in the scratches. Using a liquid chemical such as CLR and others will soften the hard water and allow it to be removed faster and easier.
