I am going to guess that slugs like your petunia leaves, but there are also caterpillars that may be eating them. You can spray your petunias with half and half vinegar/water solution. Obviously reapply after it rains. My go-to solution is always diatomaceous earth, which you buy in a bag at your garden store. It feels like a powder and you spread it around on the ground in a ring around your petunia bed. You can also throw some down on the soil in between the plants. If it gets on the plants themselves it doesn't hurt them, and you can brush it off the leaves if you want to. This is also the best protection against slugs for hostas.

Thank you for your ideas. Because I also have lots of hostas. I don't see to many caterpillars. But my petunia leaves have little black things on them.
