I recently moved to Tennessee and I'm concerned about snakes. I have a log pile and am told that snakes love them. Please help.

Moth balls. Spread them all around

I would put some mothballs around your pond to keep tehm out. Here is another article that might be helpful. http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Snakes, good luck

Moth balls are toxic to kids, dogs, and the environment . For the most part, snakes do not want to see you anymore than you want to see them. They find dark hidden areas to avoid people, that is why they choose log piles and such. If you raise you log stand and leave it uncovered you will most likely not get them hiding out there. Having said that, if that is not an option, then, make your own repellent using Essential Oils - cinnamon and clove oils mixed with distilled water can be sprayed all around and on your wood pile to repel these critters because they want no part this oil mixture and avoid it

I second the essential oils! It is also non-toxic when you burn the wood!

  • I third (is that a real option?☺), the essential oils. I get snakes (rattlers), and rats and mice in my woodpile too. I buy cinnamon in bulk and toss it around as well. Doesn't harm kids, pets or environment.
