    Have you tried to deprive it of sunlight by placing cardboard or 9-15 sheets of newspaper over the plant, then 2-3 inches of mulch. Last you could add Preen to the mulch. This works but if the plant is growing among your other plants it might not be doable. The other option is to dig out all of the soil and put in new soil.

    Nutsedge has a little nut from which it grows, If you can dig out that little nut, good. If not Monterey has spray that targets this weed, I've used it for years and found it works very well.
