This is an antique armoire and it needs love. It's solid wood and the possibilities are endless! Just wanting to see what ideas everyone comes up with :-)
It's in very good condition. It was a freebie so I have to love on it.

It is beautiful. I personally love wood and would just fix it up. A lot will tell you to paint it. You are right thou the possibilities are endless. Here are some things other Hometalkers have done with theirs that might help with inspiration...http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=Antique%20armoire

Beautiful old Lady! If she was mine I would clean her up, condition the wood, then seal it.

Beautiful! I love all things beachy....so I would paint her in a shade of soft white, then distress her lightly to look a little worn. On the inside of the cabinet and the drawers, I would paint a light aqua for a surprise pop of color. Have fun!

I love painted wood, but I think this armoire is calling for wood stain and wax, but not too dark. The mirrors look fine. If there are imperfections, I still wouldn't replace the glass. It looks as if the right hand door is not closing properly. That's just a matter of cleaning, repainting and rehanging the hardware, although some wood putty might be needed if the wood is weak near the hinges. For the inside, I would paint every surface with a gold or pink swirly pearlized paint or a wallpaper of the same. I like the hardware in dark paint. Thanks for giving us a welcome to contribute our ideas. Best wishes to you.

What do you like? Plain wood is great. You could use stain or paint to stencil a design on the drawers or base. If you like painted furniture, go with a color scheme and design strategy that suits your taste. You can always change out knobs, paint or Mod Podge a design onto them. If you like the woodgrain, use a gel stain in a fun color like red or turquoise. Show us pics when you're done!

I agree with Michele and paint and distress it. You could replace the mirror with chicken wire. Also take off the small door and put a wire basket in it.

I refinished many a piece of furniture and cabinets. It's hard work, but it's worth it in the end. I don't like to paint over wood it's just too beautiful for that. 1st, remove all the knobs, sand everything first using a heavy grit sandpaper and work down to a fine grit. Wipe everything clean with a tac cloth to remove all dust. Pick out your stain of choice, brush it on careful not to drip. When you are done if you like the look simply polyurethene it in gloss or flat, your choice. . If you want to stain it again I recommend sanding it again with a fine paper to open the pores wipe down re-stain, polyurethene and be proud of what you have done..

You could also cover the wood w fabric or wallpaper, or just the interior, depending on yr style

I would recondition this piece and take the small door off. Thumbtack wallpaper, fabric, or even contact paper on the inside of the opening (minus the shelf surface). Thumbtacking allows you to change things up as your decor changes.Pop a crocheted or paper doily in the opening and display a favorite treasure or photo. I would also replace the ho-hum knobs with something more interesting. Inexpensive & easy-peasy!

I would clean it up . Sand it and seal with some polyurethane . Modge podge some old time looking floral fabric or paper on the inside and maybe change the knobs if I could find some from that Era in an antique shop.

if you're looking to repurpose you could do any of the previous refinishing suggestions then alter the inside to suit your needs. add a wine glass rack some shelves maybe mirror the back and add a light you have a secret bar... put in suitable shelves or racks for different supplies maybe add a surface that folds out on a hinge to become a desk/table add a task light and voila, you have a hideable office or craft station.... drill holes in back to accommodate cords add shelves or racks screw in cup hooks to underside of a shelf use baskets or other pretty containers to hold sugar flatware creamer coffee put your coffeemaker in it maybe again the fold down table you have a coffee station you don't have to leave your room for... i could go on but like you said, the possibilities are endless. now go have fun.

Lovely! A 2 layer paint job (one color layer under a cream or black distressed layer) would be gorgeous, then stamp or cursive write on it. A number for each drawer (in French?) - would add a touch of funkiness to it.

Beautiful piece. I would just clean her up and apply Howard Restor-a-Finish. That's all I did to this piece except for a surprise bit of turquoise paint.
