There is no average cost. It depends on the type of roofing material, the slope of the roof, will it be a 'nail over' or the old roofing all stripped off, will they need to replace any wood sheathing, etc. You need to call at least three reputable roofers and get estimates AND references. References are very important when hiring someone to work on your house. And never pay up front, you pay when the job is completed to your satisfaction.
I would also look up the contractor on the states' Contractor Board website to be sure he's licensed, has insurance and worker's comp, and if any disputes were filed or actions take against them.
