I think it will depend on the room you're doing. A bathroom is going to have more steam. Cleaning the wall well and ensuring you have a good adhesion will definitely increase the length of time. I would also recommend putting a coat of wax over the top when you are finished. This will make cleanup easier and extend the life of your tile.
