It is coming down in some places. I want to take it all off and just have a smooth ceiling. Any suggestions?
The leaf blower is probably the best choice as it will not damage the roof, unless you accidentally blow under the shingles.
If you have a high volume pump like 8-15gpm, you could probably rinse the roof to get some of the stuff off before you clean it.

There is a product called a RoofRake. It is great for removing leaves, pine needles, etc. It comes in varying lengths from about 12' to 24' and can be found online or in some home centers.
Ugh... I hate heights and steep is even worse. We use a leaf blower, but sounds like your roof might be scary to navigate. That RoofRake idea sounds like a good suggestion, though. I'm not much help... sorry...
Hire a reputable company that is insured and bonded if you can afford it. Otherwise I would also go with the roof rake.
I stay on the ground and clean mine with sections of pvc attached by screwing together (so I can disassemble and store) on one end a curved piece so it looks like a shepherds staff....attach hose nozzle set to high pressure....attach garden hose on other end....great for gutters too.,,,of course you are going to get wet....but the grandkids love it when they play in the water...can be made as long as you need...mine reaches 30 feet...so I can stand far enough back to see what I'm doing...use rigid pvc for control...no ladder and no falls.
