I'm in Fort Collins, CO at approx 5,000 ft. Our growing season is shorter, and things need to be watered because we're dry. Plant by memorial day, and first snow might come as early as September - although we have been lucky the last couple years and it's waited until October. I plant - tomatoes, spicy peppers, different varieties of squash, strawberries, rhubarb, basil, parsley, mint, pumpkins, green beans, peas, etc. They have all done well. I have grown corn as well. I grow them right outside, and cover them to protect them if it's going to hail, or potential frost. Hope this helps :)

Thanks so much, this has given me a most encouraging guide, and if I can grow half of what you do, I shall be "over the moon"!

Judy, this is a interesting question. I would ask someone at the nursery, and get written material on this. Form a notebook, on this topic. The inside plants I can understand, tho that depends on your windows, if you have good sunshine, coming thru, and the timing of the sunshine. We have lots of Violets, tho I don't grow veg. plants. Best wishes, Judy.

Thanks, Judy, it would seem that the Salida area has good sunshine, and the house has plenty big windows, so I shall be able to experiment.

I will also take your advice and check with the nurseries in the area and hear what they have to say.

Thanks so much for your suggestions - in both your replies.

Judy, another idea, just removed the lamps, and tall items in this pic., and place a level dish, that could be a candy dish. If this is what you want, then you have found your answer. Best wishes, J.

You can always grow herbs, and then put those out, in the late spring, in parcial sunny places. In TN they can stand full sun, tho in hotter areas they may not. This is suppose to be a very hot, summer, so be alert to this, as well. I hope this helps, enjoy, J.

More ideas - you are the greatest! Thank you so much.

Actually, I cannot move to the Salida area until my three old dogs have "gone to the great beyond", so won't be leaving until probably next year.

But since I love to grow some things, herbs certainly, I was trying to get an idea what might be possible at this sort of elevation.

Judith, one more important factor, Mary Golds are GREAT - this will keep rabbits and other animals from your plants, and crops. Also the Geranium will prevent misqutoes - sorry I missed the spelling of that word!! That is a stinker to spell!! Those 2 factors are very important to recall, so make a note of these, in case someone asks for these, ok? I also found out, that if you wrap 3-4 Bay Leaves together, about 3-4 of these in a dish, and light a fire, this will prevent the biting bugs at night. OK? Enjoy, and I will try to think of others, Best wishes, J.
