How To Design Your Own Fabric With Stencils And Paint!

3 Materials
Every spring my patio gets pressure washed to prepare for a new sitting (I can dream?) season!

And every year I love to shake things up and try something different.

Upon looking at the bare pallet wood chairs, a little brain storm hit. What if I designed my own fabric this round?

Well, not only did it work out perfectly, check out how bright and cheerful the patio looks now!

Bring on the sitting...

Here's how I did it!

(special thanks to Bliss Ranch for the inspiring idea)
The pallet wood chair and sofa were fabulous starts! I find it really helpful to gut everything so I can start with a clear vision.
Gathering up every sign styled stencil (find stencils HERE) I own, these would be the key to achieving the look I had in mind.

Tip: Think of a theme for your fabric. Mine was signs, but this of course could be anything you desire.

A well washed and dried painter's drop cloth was cut in half, then stencils were arranged on top of the fabric in a pleasing way.
Each chair fabric was stenciled, then simply tucked in under the custom cut cushions.

And yes, the fabric stayed put! No sewing for this girl if I can get away with it...
A bunch of pillows were piled into place, and this one was called done! And the results were so fun!

Be sure to visit the blog post link at the bottom, so you can see the other chair up close too!

Note: I have not yet washed the fabric, but I plan to wash gentle cycle then hang to dry when needed.
I am LOVING the final results! Now to find the time to sit..

What do you think of this idea? Think you'll try it?

How do you hold the stencil in place when you paint it? Adhesive? What type of brush? I've used foam brushes but I always get paint under the edge of the stencil - icky! Ann Rees Van Wert Ohio

I want to stencil on my plain outdoor sofa cushions. Would it be better to use fabric paint or fabric markers? Thanks
