Very moldy water is coming from just one faucet and smells like a moldy dishrag only about a thousand times stronger. The house is only 6 months old. The airator smells but is buried inside the faucet so I don't even know how to replace it. do I need to replace the faucet or the line? It is so bad it was causing allergies and sore throats. Also when the water hits the drain stop it splashes and sprays the moldy water all over the floor and me and my clothes when I stand at the sink. I can't figure out how to remove the stopper as it is attached to the drain.

Drain stopper may screw out. Aerator should screw off. Can you address these issues through the builder? Is the problem in only one location?

Does your new house have a New Home Warranty? If so, make a claim with the builder ASAP as there are time limits for certain types of claims.

  • Go back to the builder, this should not be occurring in a home this new.

Definitely contact your builder. If you have a new home, this should not be happening. Perhaps there is a problem with one of the lines, etc. Mold is very serious and can cause a lot of problems....so get the builder to repair this as quickly as possible for it affects other parts of your new home.

First call the city inspector and explain the problem. Make an appointment for him/her to come out and evaluate the situation as you regard it to be serious and unhealthy.

Next call the builder and let the builder know you have reported the problem to the city inspector and that you have an appointment to meet with the city inspector. This should put a fire under the builders arse to move on this quickly. All new homes have a guarantee and this should be addressed immediately.

In the meantime, use only bottled water for all consumables, including the washing of fruits and veggies. If the builder is not at your address within 24 hours, then I would advise you to call your lawyer.

Your city inspector may advise you to move out of the house until the problem is rectified and your attorney will insure the problem is addressed at no additional expense to you. You need to move on this quickly.
