How can you update a kitchen countertop cheaply?

    Depends on several things. Assuming they are plastic laminate there is a paint that is made for that purpose. Haven't looked at it in a long time but think you could get it at Lowes or HD. If you have woodworking skills and some basic tools you could try to find someone who would sell you scraps of Corian or one of its many clones. There are sometimes fair sized pieces and often complementary colors. I have done several small to moderate sized projects that way.

    You can use countertop restoration kits by Rustoleum or Giani.

    You could do concrete dyed any color.

    Take a look at Giani Granite. It's a paint-on product intended for sad old countertops and is lightyears less expensive than new ones and will hold up better than regular paint or Contac paper.
