How can I paint paneled walls and make them look good?
Lightly sand any surfaces that are shiny, then wipe well to remove dust, etc. If the walls are dirty, you can wash them with a solution of TSP (available at your home center) first. Then, Primer and paint the walls with standard interior paint. If you do not like the appearance of the seams, you can fill them in first using spackle, then sand to smooth them out.
The person who painted my sitting rm. did the above, and it turned out well and has lasted 7 or 8 yrs.
You can paint the paneling or you can add wall paper with some dimension to it and paint that for a completely different look. We did that at my Mom's old farm house and she loved it!
